Summer 2023 Service Changes

This summer, we're revising bus service schedules to better reflect service that will operate. Last season, MBTA bus service schedules did not always reflect bus arrival times due to operator shortages and not enough drivers to run routes daily. These changes in scheduled service will allow us to improve service delivery by decreasing long gaps/trip cancellations. Most subway lines will also experience service changes.

Service Changes by Mode

subway Subway Service Changes

Effective July 2, 2023

The following changes to Green, Orange, and Blue Line service will remain in effect for the summer season. There will be no service changes to the Red and Mattapan lines.

Line green line Green LineChangeService frequency decreases and departure times change on all branches throughout the day on weekdays.
Line orange line Orange LineChangeService frequency increases and departure times change throughout the day on weekdays.
Line blue line Blue LineChange

Service frequency increases from 7 AM to 2 PM and 4 PM to 7 PM on weekdays. Departure times change throughout the day every day.

Sumner Tunnel Closure

The summer schedules will coincide with the closure of the Sumner Tunnel between July 5 and August 31.

commuter rail Commuter Rail Service Changes

Effective May 22, 2023

Spring/summer Commuter Rail schedules went into effect on May 22.

ferry Ferry Service Changes

Effective May 27, 2023

Weekend service starts again for the Hingham/Hull ferry (F2H), and it will make stops at George's Island on weekdays.

There are no planned service changes to The RIDE at this time.
