Hynes Station Accessibility Improvements
Hynes Station serves the B, C, and D branches of the Green Line. We’re renovating the station to improve accessibility, safety, and rider experience.
Design contract awarded: Spring 2020
Projected completion: Fall 2030
Budget: $110 million (construction)
Status: Preliminary design
Why We're Doing This Work
We’re renovating stations on the Green Line to make them fully accessible. Currently, Hynes Station has several accessibility barriers throughout the station, and it does not provide an accessible path from the entrance to the Green Line platforms.
- Accessibility upgrades to the existing Massachusetts Ave entrance and a new entrance at Boylston St
- New elevators throughout the station
- Raised platforms for easier boarding
- A new, sheltered bus stop at the corner of Mass Ave and Boylston St, replacing the former Mass Ave @ Newbury St stop
- Modernized lighting and wayfinding, upgraded safety features, and a new power substation
- Increased safety and improved service reliability
- Full accessibility and better rider experience and safety
