E Branch Track Upgrades August 6 - 21
Updated on August 9, 2022
As part of the Green Line Transformation, there will be a 16-day full access closure on the E Branch from Saturday, August 6 to Sunday, August 21.
Building a Better T
As part of our $9.6 billion, 5-year capital investment plan, we're renovating stations, modernizing fare collection systems, upgrading services for our buses, subways, and ferries, and improving the accessibility of the entire system.
Why We're Doing This Work
During this closure, we'll replace more than 2,500 feet of track and two units of special trackwork, and install Green Line Train Protection System (GLTPS) equipment.
This is the third of four closures that are taking place across the Green Line this year. With 16 days of full access, we'll complete upgrades that would usually require six months of weekend closures.
Construction Locations
Crews will replace track between Longwood Ave and Brigham Circle, at the Northeastern siding, and at the Heath St loop, creating a safer, more dependable ride for E Branch passengers.
Service Changes August 6 – 21
Route 39 bus service (Forest Hills - Back Bay) will be enhanced, and the additional bus service will meet or exceed frequency of current E Branch schedule. Bus stops along Huntington and South Huntington Ave will be marked and used as stops for alternative service.
