Train Testing Begins on New Green Line Medford Branch

On May 14, we began testing trolleys on the Green Line's newly constructed Medford Branch.

As part of our $9.6 billion, 5-year capital investment plan, we're renovating stations, modernizing fare collection systems, upgrading services for our buses, subways, and ferries, and improving the accessibility of the entire system.

The first train traveled the full length of the Medford Branch from East Somerville station to Medford/Tufts station, located at Tufts University.

What's Next

We'll continue to test Green Line trains on the new branch until passenger service begins.

Passenger service on the Medford Branch is currently targeting late summer 2022.
