Full Service Shutdowns on D Branch Begin June 12
Updated on June 3, 2021
To accelerate work on the Green Line Transformation (GLT) Green Line D Track and Signal Replacement Project, we will shut down train service between Riverside and Fenway for a total of 18 days.
Crews will work 24 hours a day, seven days a week during two 9-day closures:
- Saturday, June 12 – Sunday, June 20
- Thursday, June 24 – Friday, July 2
Free accessible shuttle buses will replace trains between Riverside and Fenway during these closures.
Express buses from Riverside to Copley will operate during rush hour and during games at Fenway Park.
Why We’re Doing This Work
By allowing crews 24/7 access to the tracks during these closures, we will complete the noisiest track replacement work by early fall, two months ahead of schedule. This will reduce disruption to neighbors of the D Branch and bring benefits to riders sooner.
Signal replacement and minor construction activities will continue through Fall 2021, when we expect to complete the project.
Work Locations and Schedule
Crews will work around the clock during the following weeks:
- From the end of normal train service on Friday, June 11 to the beginning of normal train service on Monday, June 21
- From the end of normal train service on Wednesday, June 23 to the beginning of normal train service on Saturday, July 3
Regular weeknight and weekend work will resume on Tuesday, July 6, and continue through Fall 2021. Shuttles will continue to replace train service on most weeknights and weekends through Fall 2021.
