We’re upgrading the Blue Line between Airport and Aquarium stations to improve resiliency and travel time.
The harbor tunnel, which runs between Aquarium and Maverick stations, passes under Boston Harbor and is susceptible to flooding during storm surges. We’re making infrastructure upgrades to improve flood resilience and prevent water leaks and corrosion.
We’re also replacing the track between Airport and Maverick stations so we can lift a speed restriction and improve travel times.
Building a Better T
As part of our $9.6 billion, 5-year capital investment plan, we're renovating stations, modernizing fare collection systems, upgrading services for our buses, subways, and ferries, and improving the accessibility of the entire system.
- Removal of inactive cables, ducts, and panels to prevent further corrosion
- Waterproofing of cracks and other water entry points
- Repairs to water-damaged concrete and corroded track elements
- Relocation of fire hose connections and drainage pumps
- Improved safety and flood resilience in the harbor tunnel
