Bike Parking

The MBTA offers three types of bike parking: 

• Regular bike racks
• Covered bike racks
• Pedal & Park facilities

Be sure to read our policies and rules before parking your bike at an MBTA station.

We have installed regular bike racks at 95% of MBTA subway stations.

Covered Bike Racks

To protect bicycles from the elements, the following stations have covered bike racks available:

Pedal and Park Facilities

A selection of high-traffic MBTA stations have Pedal and Park facilities, which are secure, enclosed parking areas for from 50 to 150 bikes. Pedal and Parks have surveillance cameras and controlled door access, and they’re free to use for CharlieCard holders.

To access Pedal and Park facilities, you must register your CharlieCard. Once you’re registered, parking your bike is free at all facilities.

Bike Parking Policies

• Bikes should only be parked at designated bike parking areas. Bikes locked to handrails, railings, doors, ramps, stairways, bus stops, etc. will be removed.
• Cyclists are responsible for damage to MBTA property OR injury, loss, or damage to passengers or MBTA employees due to a cyclist’s negligence.
• Motorized vehicles are not allowed at bike parking facilities.
• The MBTA is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged bikes.

Lost and stolen bikes

If you park your bike at MBTA facilities, you should record its serial number to help identify it if it’s lost or stolen and recovered. Also make sure to register your bike with the MBTA Transit Police so that we can notify you if it's found.

Abandoned bikes

Bikes left for more than two weeks will be considered abandoned and will be removed from MBTA property.

If an MBTA employee suspects that a bike is abandoned, they will tag it. After 14 days, the bike will be removed and stored for 30 days at an MBTA facility. If the bike is still unclaimed, it will be donated to a local charity.

If your bike has been tagged but isn’t abandoned, simply remove the tag and continue to park normally.

Sweeps to remove abandoned bikes at high-traffic stations like Alewife and Davis will be advertised in advance at the bike parking area.
